Felting

Why in your right mind would want to do all that knitting and then ruin it. ON PURPOSE????
Because it's fun!

Antoher Newbie!!

This post is coming to you from Cathi's living room floor (I SO want a laptop & wireless Internet now)! She was so excited about her birthday gift that she couldn't wait for me to share it with you all. Cathi is my only non-knitting friend that has actually shown an interest in learning how to knit. So you know what I got her for her birthday right?!

Yup you guessed it! If you tell me you want to learn to knit - expect yarn and needles in your near future. I couldn't be more pleased with her reaction. There was much squealing and jumping around. It's just what ever knitter wants to see when she gifts someone with yarn.

So we're learning how to knit, Cathi is pretty impressed with my patience, I'm pretty impressed with her perseverance. She's so cute, she keeps apologizing - I keep trying to tell her - "babe I taught six year olds - this ain't nothing. " She just finished her first row - at forty minutes for twenty stitches we'll have a scarf in no time! Just kidding she's doing great but next time we might lay of the alcohol! Oops got to go - she just pulled the needle out of all her stitches. No worries - I'll make her a knitter yet!

Bring on Spring!

Winter finally made her appearance today. Ice storms are so beautiful.
They always manage to take my breath away.
After the ick of the sleet and rain everything just looks so amazing.

Unfortunately ice storms are also very dangerous.

Luckily (for me anyway) this is my neighbor's tree. There's a lot of damage lots of downed trees, power lines, and oodles of fender benders. I wished we'd had snow - supposedly we'll be getting some of that later tonight. Nothing exciting just an inch or so - I got my winter storm - I'm good. Bring on the spring!!

Super Secret Revealed

I finally get to show you the first of the secret projects I was working on. A little something for Megan's birthday. This the first pair of handmde socks Megan had every REALLY fondled and the first pair she'd ever had on her feet. Her reaction was rather funny. She kept saying things like "they feel so normal" and "you can't feel the stitches at all." It was cute.

I'm actually kinda impressed with myself on this one. I got the fit perfect without a clue as to her foot size. How do I keep doing that? When I make my own socks there's always some kind of fit issue. One sock fits great the other - not so much. I've got my feet right in front of me but can't get the fit perfect; and yet with the socks I make for anyone else they're pretty much perfect. What's that about??

Short-fused!

I'm making these socks and they have this very regular precise striping going on. I wanted to maintain that so I figured I'd do some short-row heels. I've done short-row heels once before on some toe-up socks and they came out fabulous (it was the cast off that left them lingering in the UFO basket.) I should have no problem with this right? Wrong!

I did what I knew - the single wrap method. It looked like crap. I figured the yarn was too fine to pick up the wraps easily so I ripped it out. I did a little research and found Nona's short-row tutorials and went to work on the yarn over method. As you can see - it still looks like crap. These pictures are from my second attempt at the YO method (the wrap attempt was to ugly to photograph.) What am I doing wrong? The YO's on the purl side are kinda strange it's like a backward YO thing - it never felt "right" but I just kept on truckin figuring I was following the directions so it had to work out OK in the end.

Why didn't it work out OK in the end? I'm determined to make this work! I've been trying this short row thing for three pairs of socks now. I abandoned the first try - the poor socks are still sitting in a basket with no heels. I abandoned the second try - I needed them to be finished before the end of time. I've got to figure this thing out I can NOT let it beat me AGAIN!!! HELP!!!
